Mount Gambier residents are being encouraged to take part in Living Lightly Locally, a free 12-month program designed to help people make practical, sustainable changes in their everyday lives while connecting with others in the community.
Registrations are open for the Adelaide University initiative ahead of its Mount Gambier launch on Monday 31 August 2026.
Monthly sessions will cover topics including wellbeing, waste, energy, water, food, biodiversity, climate and community, offering opportunities to learn, share ideas and take positive action close to home.
City of Mount Gambier Environmental Sustainability Business Partner Aaron Izzard said the program is open to anyone interested in learning more about sustainability, regardless of their experience or knowledge.
"Living Lightly Locally is about helping people make practical, achievable changes that support a more sustainable lifestyle while connecting with others who are on a similar journey," Mr Izzard said.
"The program creates opportunities for participants to learn from facilitators and each other, explore topics that affect everyday life, and discover simple actions that can make a real difference over time."
"By taking part, residents will not only gain knowledge and practical skills, they will also contribute to valuable research that is helping build a better understanding of how communities can support lasting and meaningful behaviour change."
Living Lightly Locally combines community education with research, helping inform future sustainability initiatives while supporting participants to make meaningful changes in their everyday lives.
The program will officially launch at the Mount Gambier Library on Monday 31 August 2026 at 6:00pm with food and refreshments provided.
