Port Macquarie Hastings Council is commencing delivery of its 2026-27 Annual Road Renewals Program, with planned works across towns and villages throughout the region to improve road conditions, extend pavement life and support a safer and more reliable road network.

The annual program is an important part of Council's proactive approach to road maintenance. Different roads require different treatments depending on the condition of the existing pavement and underlying road structure.

This year's program includes three main types of road renewal works: resealing, stabilisation and resurfacing.

Three ways Council renews our roads

Resealing

Resealing is a preventative treatment that helps protect the existing road surface from water and weather. It can extend the life of a road by helping prevent moisture from entering the pavement and causing further deterioration.

Stabilisation

Stabilisation strengthens the existing road pavement or road base by treating the existing materials to improve their strength and durability. It is used where the pavement requires strengthening and can extend the life of the road without requiring a complete reconstruction.

Resurfacing

Resurfacing involves applying a new asphalt surface to an existing road where the underlying pavement remains suitable. It provides a smoother driving surface, improves road condition and safety, and extends the service life of the road.

Council uses an independent road condition survey to help identify and prioritise roads for renewal. The survey considers a range of factors including road condition, road hierarchy, road type and traffic volumes, speed limits and access to important community facilities such as schools, shops and bus routes.

Council's Director Community Infrastructure Blayne West said the program allows Council to take a planned approach to maintaining and renewing its road network.

"Our Annual Road Renewals Program is an important part of how we proactively manage and maintain our road network across the region.

"Every road has different needs, which is why we use different treatments depending on the condition of the pavement and the level of work required.

"Road renewal doesn't always mean completely rebuilding a road. By applying the right treatment at the right time, we can extend the life of our roads, reduce the need for more significant intervention and make the best use of our investment in the road network."

The 2026-27 program includes roads across Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Kendall, Lake Innes, Sancrox and Telegraph Point and surrounding communities.

The full list of roads included in this year's Annual Road Renewals Program, including the treatment planned for each road, is available on Council's website.

Works will be scheduled throughout the 2026-27 financial year, with timing dependent on factors including weather, site conditions and construction requirements.

Residents and road users will be advised ahead of works where there are changes to traffic conditions or access. Affected residents and businesses will be notified by letterbox drop, with variable message signs also used on site where required.
