The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs will have a renewed Ethics Committee as of 1 September 2026. Nadine Raaphorst has been appointed Chair, succeeding Antoaneta Dimitrova, who has led the committee over the past several years.
In addition, Beatrix Campbell (Leiden University College), Thijs van Dooremalen (Institute of Security and Global Affairs), and Shivant Jhagroe (Institute of Public Administration) will join the committee as new members. They are appointed for a term of three years.
Since the committee began working with the Data, Ethics, and Privacy (DEP) Tool, Femke Mostert has supported these efforts and addressed practical questions from researchers. In that capacity, she will assume the role of Secretary as of 1 September.
Nadine Raaphorst is looking forward to taking on her role as Chair: 'The coming years we will focus on further strengthening our advisory and support function. One of the initiatives we will undertake is the organisation of reflection sessions on concrete dilemmas from research practice. How do we safeguard independent research in our close collaborations with public organisations? How can we responsibly engage with open science principles such as data sharing and reproducibility, while taking into account the qualitative and sensitive nature of much of the research data within our faculty? These sessions will provide researchers with the opportunity to exchange experiences, jointly explore ethical considerations, and learn from one another.'
At the same time, the faculty bids farewell to Antoaneta Dimitrova, Andrei Poama, and Min Yung Cho. The Faculty Board would like to thank them for their valuable commitment and contribution to the ethical review of research within the faculty.

Ethics Committee
The Ethics Committee plays an important role in safeguarding ethically responsible and carefully conducted research within the faculty. The committee reviews research proposals for ethical considerations and supports researchers with questions related to research ethics through the provision of training and advice.
