Repealing Treaty To Save Taxpayers $1 Billion

Liberal Party Victoria

The Parliamentary Budget Office has confirmed the Liberals and Nationals' plan to repeal Labor's divisive Treaty will save Victorians $1 billion.

The costing completed by the independent budget watchdog shows the total cost of Labor's Treaty to be $948.3 million over a decade.

An elected Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will introduce legislation to repeal Treaty within our first 100 days.

Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Treasurer, Jess Wilson, said: "Labor's Treaty will spend a billion dollars on a bureaucracy that Victorians do not want and cannot afford.

"It will not put a single dollar into closing the gap and will mean $1 billion less for the essential services Victorians rely on.

"A Liberal and Nationals Government will fix Labor's budget mess to make life easier for Victorians and grow our economy."

Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Melina Bath, said: "Victorians expect money invested in Aboriginal Victorians to deliver real outcomes.

"Treaty is not how we do that and its extraordinary cost to taxpayers simply cannot be justified."
