Report reiterates hospitals in crisis

  • AMA report confirms Tasmanian hospitals are in crisis
  • Tasmania performs worse than all other states and territories
  • Health Minister missing in action
  • The Australian Medical Association's public hospital report card confirms the dire consequences of the Liberals' chronic mismanagement of Tasmania's health system.

Shadow Health Minister, Sarah Lovell, said the problem precedes the pandemic and has been exacerbated by COVID-19.

"The AMA's public hospital report card shows Tasmania has performed worse than all other states and territories on every performance measure," Ms Lovell said.

"Make no mistake, this is a direct result of the Liberals' mismanagement of Tasmania's health system.

"Tasmania's hospitals have been in crisis long before COVID yet our doctors and nurses continue to be ignored by the government.

"Elective surgery wait times are devastatingly high, emergency department wait times are blowing out and staff continue to be under increasing pressure.

"It's clear the Government has no plan to address the crisis facing the health and hospital system.

"Only this week LGH staff lodged a workplace grievance highlighting concerns about the safety of both staff and patients, and yet Sarah Courtney has been missing in action and hasn't even had the decency to respond.

"Report after report reiterates our hospitals are in crisis - what's it going to take for the Liberals to act?"
