Rita Wilson Plays for Magee-Womens Research Institute

WHAT: Women Who Rock and Gibson Guitars have organized the Women Who Rock Virtual Concert Series to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research at Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation (MWRIF).

Singer/songwriter and breast cancer survivor Rita Wilson will headline the concert series.
"As both a breast cancer survivor and a singer/songwriter, this concert series felt like the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for the importance of women's cancer research through the power of music," says Wilson. "I'm excited to perform alongside such a diverse and strong group of female artists and partner with Women Who Rock and Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation to hopefully make an impact in the continued fight against breast cancer."
WHY: Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among U.S. women and is the second leading cause of death of women after lung cancer. With early detection, more than 90% of women will survive their cancer.
The public can make donations through MWRIF's website. Donations generated from the virtual concerts during the month of October benefiting MWRIF will be matched by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan up to $25,000.
In addition, a classic Gibson J-50 acoustic guitar autographed by Orianthi will be auctioned on Charitybuzz with proceeds benefiting MWRIF.

  • Michael Annichine, chief executive officer, MWRIF
