Goulburn Mulwaree Council is proud to announce that the conservation of Goulburn's iconic Rocky Hill War Memorial Tower has been shortlisted in the Built Conservation category for the 2026 National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards.
Specialist conservation works at the Memorial addressed long-standing concrete deterioration and water ingress issues ahead of its centenary in December 2025. The project included concrete spalling remediation, replacement of decaying structural steel, repointing and repair of stonework, and the application of protective coatings to safeguard the structure into the future.
Delivered by local contractor ARW Multigroup, the project has restored the tower's structural stability and weather resistance while preserving its original fabric. The works have eliminated water ingress and ensured the Memorial remains accessible as a place of reflection and remembrance for the community.
Mayor Nina Dillon said the recognition highlights the importance of preserving Goulburn's heritage assets.
"Rocky Hill War Memorial Tower holds deep meaning for our community as a place of remembrance and connection. This project has ensured its preservation with care and respect, and it's wonderful to see that work recognised at a state level following the Memorial's centenary," the Mayor said.
David Anable, Director of ARW Multigroup, said the project was a privilege to deliver.
"We are honoured to be shortlisted for the Built Conservation category for the Rocky Hill War Memorial project. This recognition is particularly meaningful given the significance of the War Memorial to the region, and we are proud to have contributed to preserving such an important piece of local heritage."
The project was made possible through funding of $132,250 from the Department of Veterans' Affairs Saluting Their Service program, alongside additional investment from Goulburn Mulwaree Council to deliver the full scope of works.
Winners of the 2026 National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards will be announced in May. Community members can also support the project in the People's Choice Award by voting online at https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/heritage-awards/.
