Safer Parking Reminder Ahead Of Beer Can Regatta

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is reminding the community to park safely and legally ahead of the Beer Can Regatta at Mindil Beach on Sunday 28 June 2026, as one of the Top End's most iconic dry season events returns.

With thousands of people expected to attend, the event will place high demand on parking and surrounding streets, making safe parking behaviour essential for public safety, emergency access and traffic flow.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said responsible parking is critical during major events such as the Beer Can Regatta.

"With thousands of people expected at Mindil Beach for the Beer Can Regatta, it's essential everyone parks safely and only in designated areas," Mr Styles said.

"Parking on verges, footpaths, nature strips or across emergency access points is not only illegal, but it also creates serious safety risks for pedestrians, families and emergency services."

"We want everyone to enjoy this much-loved Darwin tradition safely, and that starts with planning ahead and parking responsibly," he said.

Illegally parked vehicles can obstruct emergency access, restrict traffic movement, damage public infrastructure and force pedestrians onto the road, creating unsafe conditions in already busy event precincts.

City of Darwin is urging attendees to allow extra travel time and use designated parking areas where available.

Rangers will be in attendance throughout the Mindil Beach precinct during the event to help manage parking and support a safe and accessible environment for attendees.

Community members are reminded to park legally and follow parking and event signage, to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their journey in advance and consider alternative transport options where possible, including walking, carpooling and public transport.

Key parking reminders:

  • Do not park on verges, footpaths, nature strips or shared paths
  • Do not block driveways or emergency access points
  • Do not park in areas that are signed as no stopping or restricted zones
  • Allow extra time to find legal parking before the event begins
