Santa's tropical escape at Darwin Waterfront

Santa is swapping his boots for thongs and is set to take a break from the chilly North Pole at Darwin Waterfront.

"I just really need to warm myself up before Christmas and I couldn't think of a better place than the Northern Territory," Mr Claus said.

"I'm leaving Mrs Claus to manage the elves and the workshop, while I have some much needed relaxation by the Waterfront lagoon."

Despite the visit to Darwin originally being a holiday, Santa says he can't resist the opportunity to say hello to his favourite Territory kids.

"I'll be at the Waterfront from December 1st and you'll be able to pop by and say g'day to me from 5.30pm - 8pm every Thursday and Saturday, and Sunday's from 9am - 11am at the Surf Shack."

Darwin Waterfront Senior Event Coordinator Yasmine Welsh said Santa's visit was a welcomed surprise.

"Santa's going to be spending his day's dipping in the wave lagoon, bouncing on the Aqua Park and dining at our world-class restaurants."

"We hope Santa has a terrific time at Darwin Waterfront and we're looking forward to celebrating Christmas with him and the children of Darwin."
