Search resumes for missing canyoners - Mt Wilson

Police divers have joined a search for two women missing while canyoning north of the Blue Mountains.

Emergency services were called to Wollangambe Canyon, Mount Wilson, about 2.30pm (Saturday 2 January 2021), following reports two canyoners were missing in the Wollangambe River.

Police have been told the women – believed to be aged 24 and 39 – were with eight other people were canyoning when they were sucked into a whirlpool and disappeared under water about 12.30pm.

The other members of the group were uninjured and were assisted by officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command, Police Rescue and NSW Ambulance.

Due to poor weather conditions, the search was suspended about 6pm.

It resumed at 7am today (Sunday 3 January 2021).
