Seats Fill Fast for First Child Car Seat Event

Buckle up - bookings for Council's Child Restraint Fitting event open next Monday (11 May).

Supported by Transport for NSW, the FREE event will be held on Thursday 14 May, helping local families make sure their little passengers are riding as safely as possible.

Residents can secure a booking between 9am and 2.30pm, with up to three child restraints able to be fitted or checked per vehicle (one vehicle per booking). All fittings will be carried out by an RMS Authorised Restraint Fitter at no cost and any parts required can be purchased on the day directly from the fitter.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said bookings were open exclusively to residents of the Camden local government area, with proof of address required on the day.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for families to make sure their child restraints are correctly fitted and meet safety standards," she said.

"This particular Child Restraint Fitting session is part of Council's National Families Week program, which makes it even more special. When it comes to road safety, especially for our little ones, it's always best to be as safe as possible.

"This is one of our most popular initiatives, so make sure you're ready to secure your booking before they're all gone. We hold four of these sessions every year so, if you miss out this time around, keep your eyes peeled for information on the next event, which will be on Thursday 4 June."

Council's Child Restraint Fitting event is part of a commitment to road safety.

Council works closely with schools, NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol, Transport for NSW, NSW Health, community groups and other stakeholders to deliver education programs and safety initiatives aimed at reducing road trauma. They include:

  • Drives for Learners in Macarthur, a joint initiative with Campbelltown City Council and Macarthur Highway Patrol providing pre-planned routes to help learner drivers gain experience in varied conditions;
  • U Turn the Wheel, delivered with Camden Rotary to help young drivers make safer choices;
  • Kinder Orientation Presentations, where Council and local Highway Patrol Officers speak directly to parents about school road safety; and
  • Seniors' Pedestrian Safety, offering sessions to local seniors' groups on staying safe on foot.
