Seoul-Hokkaido University Hold 27th Joint Symposium

Leader Meeting of Both Universities

The 27th Joint Symposium with Seoul National University (SNU) under a strategic international partner of our university, was held for two days on the 27th and 28th of November at the Gwanak Campus of SNU. Approximately 50 researchers and students from Hokkaido University (HU) visited SNU, and

approximately 60 researchers and students from SNU joined the event.

Prof. Jeyong Yoon of SNU gave a keynote speech entitled "The Role of Universities in Overcoming the Climate Crisis and Achieving Carbon Neutrality," in connection with the symposium's theme,

"Promoting Transdisciplinary Research Towards a Sustainable Environment."

The professor stated that in order to overcome the climate crisis, which is a global issue, we must aim to achieve carbon neutrality, and that universities have a responsibility to build the technological and academic foundations that will support a carbon-neutral society, and that cooperative efforts between universities are more important than ever.

The research breakout sessions held under this joint symposium covered a wide range of fields,

including medicine, applied chemistry, health sciences, energy engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, informatics, education, and environmental science (forestry), with a strong awareness of interdisciplinary efforts toward a sustainable environment.

During the symposium, a meeting between the leaders of both universities was also held,

followed by a tour of Artificial Intelligence Institute Seoul National University (AIIS), where

cutting-edge interdisciplinary research is being conducted.
