Shoalhaven Libraries Host Packed Events Schedule In May

From artificial intelligence to robotics and shooting for the stars, Shoalhaven Libraries will explore a range of unique topics with several engaging workshops, presentations and author talks on offer during May.

Kick off the month with a conversation about contemporary fiction at the Nowra Library. Local author Kell woods will sit down with Meredith Jaffe to discuss her latest novel, Upon a Starlit Tide. Attendees will be inspired by both authors' creative insights at this free event on Friday 2 May at 5:30pm.

Learn about the mesmerising phenomenon of bioluminescence from nature enthusiast, David Findlay. His enlightening presentation will explore the natural wonders that illuminate night, including ghost fungi, glow worms, fireflies and the sparking seas of Jervis Bay. This talk at the Nowra Library from 5:30pm on Monday 5 May will encourage attendees to see the night in a whole new light.

Find out how artificial intelligence is changing and challenging the world from expert, David O'Keefe from Aurora Consulting. His engaging seminar will cover how AI is revolutionising productivity, reshaping industries, and creating new efficiencies. He'll also discuss the ethical concerns, job displacement and data privacy issues, as well as practical strategies to mitigate these problems to responsibly harness AI's full potential. This event will be held at the Nowra Library on Thursday 8 May from 5:30pm.

The Sanctuary Point Library will host a Robotics and Coding Class for seniors on Wednesday 14 May at 10:30am. The free, hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the basics of robotics and coding in a fun and supportive environment. Tech Savvy Seniors classes are also being held at the Ulladulla and Sanctuary Point Libraries during May.

The packed schedule of events will conclude with an uplifting talk by author Gina Chick, who will share stories from her inspiring memoir, We Are the Stars. Nowra Library will host the evening of heartfelt reflection on Wednesday 14 May at 5:30pm.
