- Two construction tenders are open to upgrade separate areas of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
- The upgrades will support the wellbeing of Western Australians, enabling more people to access vital diagnostic tools and lifesaving treatment
- The works form part of the Cook Government's $4.7 billion investment in health infrastructure
Two construction tenders are open to expand Western Australia's leading neurological intervention and imaging service and for the installation of a third CT scanner, which will support patients presenting to the emergency department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH).
One project will upgrade suites and other areas of the Neurological Intervention and Imaging Service of Western Australia (NIISWA) to enhance access to lifesaving treatment.
Based at SCGH, NIISWA provides specialist expertise which includes lifesaving care for brain aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid disease and interventional stroke therapy.
The works will enable more Western Australians to access lifesaving treatment from the State's leading neurointerventional service.
The second project is to install SCGH's third CT scanner and associated works to support patient care.
The use of CT scanning as a diagnostic tool has increased steadily over the past decade, with SCGH performing the highest volume of CT examinations amongst Perth's tertiary hospitals.
Alongside the two CT scanners already in operation, an additional CT scanner will enable faster access for more Western Australians to quality care.
The tender is set to be awarded in early 2026 with construction to commence shortly afterwards.
Interested, eligible parties can bid for either tender individually, or both tenders.
Tenders close on 11 December.
As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:
"These two projects aim to support the increasing demand on our hospital services ensuring Western Australians can access the care they need, when they need it.
"The upgrade to the hospital's NIISWA and the installation of a third CT scanner builds on our government's significant infrastructure investment at SCGH.
"This includes the expansion of the ICU and redevelopment of the emergency department, which are both under construction."
As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
"We are delighted to be providing these important upgrades so we can continue to deliver one of the most comprehensive neurointerventional services in Australia.
"Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital performs more CT scans than any other hospital in WA, and a third scanner will ensure faster access to high-quality care.
"This significant investment in our hospitals is a clear demonstration of our government's commitment to improving access to healthcare for all Western Australians."
