The bus stop on Smith Street in Darwin city is moving back to Cavenagh Street, near Woolworths.

The bus stop was temporarily moved during the construction of Garramilla Boulevard, which is now complete.

The route will see buses enter the city via Daly and Mitchell Streets, travel through to the interchange along Harry Chan Avenue and exit the city via Cavenagh Street through Daly Street.

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics General Manager of Transport and Civil Services, Louise McCormick, said there will be minor updates to timetables across the wider Darwin and Palmerston network.

"Managing bus services and their scheduling requires ongoing coordination, planning and updates to network infrastructure. We continually review bus routes and services to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community," said Ms McCormick.

The move will also see the introduction of the Northern Territory's first 'B' light at the intersection of Cavenagh Street and Garramilla Boulevard, which will allow buses to proceed first.

"The 'B' light provides priority to buses at the new bus stop, which is close to the intersection. Allowing the buses to proceed six seconds earlier than the other road users to ensure buses are able to merge safely with traffic."

Two new electronic timetables will also be trialled at this bus stop, which will have real time information on which bus service is due to arrive at the bus stop.
