Construction of the new Fernadell Park Community Centre is set to commence, with a sod turning ceremony marking the next stage in delivering this important community facility.
Hawkesbury City Council hosted the event, attended by Mayor Les Sheather, Hon. Peter Primrose MLC, Government Spokesperson for Hawkesbury, Susan Templeman MP, Member for Macquarie, Member for Hawkesbury Robyn Preston and the President of the Pitt Town Progress Association.
The event celebrated the beginning of works on the new community centre, which will provide a modern, accessible space for local families, groups and the wider community to connect and come together.
Attendees were also given a guided tour of the site at Fernadell, with construction progress showcased including the playground currently being assembled, the turf being laid, the connecting footpath, and ongoing car park works.
Mayor Les Sheather said the milestone represents a significant investment in the Pitt Town community. A chapter in Pitt Town long overdue.
"The sod turning marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Fernadell Park and the local community," Mayor Sheather said.
"This new community centre will provide a welcoming space for residents of all ages to gather, connect and participate in a range of activities."
Hon. Peter Primrose MLC, Government Spokesperson for Hawkesbury, said the project will deliver important benefits for the local community.
''The Fernadell Park Masterplan is great news for Pitt Town and the whole Hawkesbury Community. The new facilities will encourage healthy, outdoor activities at a special place already loved by locals and visitors." Mr Primrose said.
Susan Templeman MP, Member for Macquarie, said the new facility will be an important asset for the local community.
"I am delighted to see the progress on Fernadell Park's sporting fields, playgrounds and walking paths, and it's great to be here today turning the sod for the construction of the new Community Centre building.
"I'm proud that there is $6.69million in Federal funding from the Australian Government's Thriving Suburbs program helping to make this overdue community vision become a reality.
"This project is exactly what the Australian Government's Thriving Suburbs Program is about — delivering practical infrastructure that improves connectivity and liveability for local communities "Ms Templeman said.
The new centre will be located at the corner of Fernadell Drive and Stables Street within Fernadell Park, providing convenient access to adjoining off-street parking and surrounding park facilities.
