COVID cases in SA
There have been 1,458 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 9,075 active cases in South Australia.
Sadly, SA Health can confirm two people, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths include one woman in her 80s and one man in his 90s. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 1 August 2022 and 16 August 2022.
There are 210 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including seven people in ICU.
*Due to changes underway within hospital reporting systems, today’s hospitalisation numbers have been collated using an alternative reporting method, which will be in place until later this month. Associated vaccination data is not available.
Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

The latest genome sampling has found 1% of samples analysed were BA.2, 7.4% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 90.5% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

Yesterday, 7,367 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is an 18.7% increase on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 737 PCR tests were positive, while 721 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.
Currently 96.2% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.3% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 74.9% of eligible South Australians and 70.5% of South Australians aged 16+.
