South Australia Police remembers

This year South Australia Police will support a number of special services to commemorate ANZAC Day.

Today, a special ANZAC Memorial Service was held at the Wall of Remembrance at the South Australia Police Academy to remember those who lost their lives while serving overseas with Australia's armed forces and United Nations peace-keeping contingents.

Police Chaplain, Reverend Mark Kleemann led the memorial service which commemorated the ultimate sacrifice made by the 25 police officers killed on active service leave from SAPOL. This includes 11 police officers who lost their lives in World War I, 13 officers in World War II, and one officer who was killed in Cyprus while on peace-keeping duties with the United Nations.

The service included an address to evoke the spirit of the ANZAC's, read by Doctor Barry Blundell, APM LEM. This year the address featured Junior Constable Graham Bruce Coad who served his community and nation going from police officer to airman before making the ultimate sacrifice.

Those in attendance at the memorial service included Her Excellency the Honourable France Adamson AC, Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens APM LEM, Lee Odenwalder MP (representing Minister for Police Joe Szakacs) representatives from the Australian Defence Forces, Australian Federal Police, RSL Branches and other Community Groups.

The South Australia Police Band and members of the Mounted Operations Unit will have the honour of leading the annual ANZAC Day march on Tuesday as veterans, Australian Defence Force units, bands, Descendant Groups and spectators proudly march through the city. SAPOL officers will also participate in and support other ANZAC Day services throughout the state on Tuesday.
