President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith, said: "We are absolutely delighted our University has risen in the Guardian University Guide to number 16, retaining our position in the top 20 for the second year running.

"The Guardian's Guide is a particularly prestigious endorsement as it is based on education-related measures and therefore underlines our commitment and dedication to delivering quality education and a positive experience for all our students. I'd like to thank everyone across our University community who has contributed to this success."

A fantastic 13 subjects made it into the top ten of the Guide this year, six of these being newly defined subjects in the list. Two subjects were ranked first: Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Physiotherapy.
