Yesterday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened the first meeting of the Economic Diplomacy Action Group (EDAG), a committee of federal agency leaders established to better coordinate whole-of-government support for U.S. commercial and economic diplomacy.
The EDAG, chaired by the Secretary of State and vice-chaired by the Secretary of Commerce and United States Trade Representative, will coordinate and leverage the full range of U.S. government programs and capacity-building mechanisms to facilitate overseas economic conditions and opportunities that support U.S. companies, create jobs for American workers, and attract investment into the United States.
Authorized by the Championing American Business through Diplomacy Act of 2019, the EDAG will shape the contours and focus of U.S. economic statecraft to advance U.S. foreign policy priorities, particularly by promoting American leadership in AI and strengthening critical mineral supply chains. In doing so, the EDAG aligns with existing U.S. government workstreams on critical minerals and AI exports and efforts such as Pax Silica, the Department's flagship initiative to build trusted supply chains. The EDAG will take action to implement the Executive Order 14320 on Promoting the Export of the American AI Technology Stack by mobilizing federal financing tools in support of priority AI export packages.
Yesterday's meeting was attended by leaders from the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the United States Trade Representative, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Energy, the Department of Treasury, the Department of War, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, the Millenium Challenge Corporation, the U.S. National Security Council, the Small Business Administration, the United States Trade and Development Agency, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
