Staying cool in heatwave

Much of SA is set to experience very hot temperaturesover the coming week.

Everyone is at risk of heat-related illness during hot weather and heatwaves. Some are more at risk than others, including babies and young children, pregnant people, older people, and people with chronic illness or mobility issues.

At the City of Salisbury, the health and wellbeing of our community and staff is our utmost priority.

Our air-conditioned libraries, community centres and hubs will be open normal hours. The Council welcomes all people who need a cool spot to escape the heat of the day.

Here are some more tips to help you keep cool and stay safe:

  • Drink plenty of water. You can find drinking fountains at most of our parks, reserves and community buildings.
  • Avoid going out in the heat, especially during the hottest part of the day.
  • Keep curtains, blinds and windows closed. Use a fan or access facilities with air-conditioning.
  • Cool off with a cold shower or bath.
  • Check in on friends, family and vulnerable people such as young children and the elderly.
  • Monitor yourself and others for early signs of dehydration and heat-related illness.
