Education and trade links between Australia and India will be strengthened through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in vocational education and training (VET).
The MoU will establish new pathways between the two countries to share information and best practice between our respective VET systems.
The agreement will help identify new ways of working together and areas of possible collaboration that include mutual priority areas of industry engagement, quality assurance models, and teaching standards.
A Joint Working Group between the department and the Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be setup to facilitate the implementation of the MoU.
Activities to support the implementation will include exchanges of information in mutual priority areas, and joint-cooperation projects that support VET trainer quality and the development of occupational standards in priority industry sectors. The MoU will also facilitate linkages between VET providers, and between industry and VET providers in both countries through targeted collaborative programs, meetings, conferences and symposia.
While India is already a key skills partner, the MoU will help foster closer ties between our respective governments and training providers, and ultimately, open up new areas of opportunity for millions of VET learners in both countries.
