The Firearms Amendment (Strengthening Firearms Security) Bill has passed the House of Assembly.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the Bill improves community safety and gets the balance right.
"We have heard clearly from Tasmanians that they want firearm reforms that improve safety while supporting law-abiding firearms owners, especially in our regional communities," Minister Ellis said.
"This is the most comprehensive firearms community safety reform in Tasmania for 30 years while not imposing caps on law abiding firearms owners.
"This Bill strengthens public safety by targeting intelligence gaps and introduces new mandatory sentences for the theft and possession of stolen firearms.
"We want to thank all members of Parliament for working collaboratively on a large number of amendments.
"Together, we have delivered stronger community safety reforms, including strengthened family violence provisions.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is focused on keeping firearms out of the hands of terrorists and criminals."
The Bill will progress through to the Legislative Council later this year.
