As the school year comes to a close, more than 1.2 million students, and hundreds of thousands of parents, teachers and school staff across the State are ready for the summer break after showing incredible resilience throughout 2022.
Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell said the experiences from 2022 would serve students and school communities well in the next school year, which begins on Tuesday, 31 January 2023, for public schools.
"I want to thank our staff from across the three school sectors - the principals, leaders, teachers, and wellbeing and school administrative support teams - who have worked so hard to ensure learning continued throughout a testing year," Ms Mitchell said.
"In particular I want to recognise our staff in the Northern Rivers, North Coast and Western NSW who were severely impacted by floods this year. Your tireless dedication to your students and wider school community has ensured that, despite catastrophic events, students could have a sense of normality and continuity of learning."
Ms Mitchell said despite the disruptions, the NSW Government's historic investment and reform agenda in NSW continued to deliver school infrastructure, invest in our youngest learners, and improve outcomes for all.
"The NSW Government has delivered more than $1 billion in school infrastructure, providing more than 500 new classrooms, 18 halls, 9 libraries and 17 COLAs for more than 20,000 students across NSW.
"The NSW Government's investment in the $15.9 billion Early Years Commitment, which includes delivery of Universal pre-Kindergarten by 2030, is already delivering for children, families and early childhood services across the state.
"Our once-in-a-generation Curriculum Reform this year saw new English and mathematics syllabuses released, making it easier for teachers while delivering a focus on literacy and numeracy that will set students up for success in their future study and careers.
"After such a big year I wish all our students, teachers, staff and families all the best for the festive season and the school holidays. I look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed for a brand new school year."
