Gender equality has been an important issue at the G20 Summit. Women-20 as a G20 engagement group has been collaborating with G20 Empower Initiative to encourage the commitment of G20 member countries in women's empowerment issues.
At the G20 Ministerial Conference on Women's Empowerment (MCWE) which was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, Women-20 and G20 Empower Initiative had the opportunity to submit technical attachments of their respective plenary meetings to the Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection (WECP) Bintang Puspayoga. These two technical attachments will be submitted as a recommendation to the G20 Leaders' Meeting at the G20 Summit.
Chair of G20 Empower Yessie D.Yoesetya stated that G20 Empower serves as a unique collaboration between the Government and the private sector. Under G20 Indonesia Presidency in 2022, G20 Empower has set 3 (three) priority issues which strengthen the results of the G20 Italy Presidency in 2021.
"Under the G20 Indonesia Presidency, we have strengthened three priority issues in the form of an Action Plan, which puts focus on: (1) Accountability for the Implementation of the G20 Empower KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), a dashboard to measure the effectiveness of women's leadership in the private sector; (2) Skills improvement and support in a move to lure the private sector to help financing for women-run Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), since women have been serving as the driving economic growth; and (3) Building Digital Resilience and Digital Skills for women running MSMEs. We utilize a network of advocates from all G20 member countries to accelerate women empowerment," said Yessie.
At the same time, Chair of W20 Uli Silalahi explained that Women20 has set 5 (five) priority issues, namely: Equality and non-discrimination, women running MSMEs, equal health services for women, challenges for women in villages and women with disabilities. There are 7 (seven) results from the Women20 plenary in 2022.
"Women20 plenary meeting concluded 7 (seven) recommendations, namely:
(1) increasing access for women and girls to health services, land ownership and services for women with disabilities and women in villages; (2) improving infrastructure and digital access in investment and technology; (3) encouraging policies on eliminating discrimination and developing gender-disaggregated data; (4) Data transparency; (5) Monitoring the indicators of successful initiatives are on target; (6) providing education and skills to eliminate gender bias and stereotypes that affected women; (7) increasing women's participation in labor force and reducing the salary gap between female and male employees," said Uli.
Women20 is a G20 Engagement Group to encourage the commitment of G20 member countries in women's issues as well as to provide policy recommendations with a gender perspective, in a move to ensure that gender mainstreaming remains an important part in the overall implementation of the G20 Summit. Meanwhile, G20 Empower is a G20 alliance that aims to accelerate the leadership and empowerment of women in the private sector. In Indonesia, the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWECP) is the "mother ministry" for G20 Empower and Women20.
