The Tasmanian Liberal Government will be bolstering efforts to encourage Tasmanians to get out and enjoy our state's hospitality venues, including a focus on alfresco dining, this summer to help support the ongoing recovery of the industry.
Through the Department of State Growth, we'll be supporting a $250,000 state-wide campaign aimed at encouraging Tasmanians to support their local venues over the warmer months.
Summer is a time when Tasmanians enjoy getting outdoors and this year we want them to include a Tasmanian food and drink venue in their plans when spending time with family and friends over the holidays.
After working with the Hobart City Council, it's become clear that following an end of year event submission process announced in July, that a modified 'Taste' style event cannot proceed this summer in the current environment as we continue to respond to the risk posed by COVID-19 and large gatherings.
However, this means we must think outside the square on how we can best enjoy the holiday period as we adapt to a new COVID-normal way of living, while focusing on supporting our Tasmanian businesses.
The new marketing campaign will encourage Tasmanians to enjoy the holiday period a little differently to previous years, by enjoying the offerings of our local hospitality businesses.
We know that many of our hospitality businesses are already set up for alfresco dining, so part of this campaign will be bolstering this by working with local councils and businesses to expand their outdoor footprint where possible, accommodating more patrons.
Hospitality and events are key economic drivers, and we recognise that the hospitality industry has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We will continue to support the sector to help reinvigorate and rebuild the industry and it's hoped the campaign will be an important tool to do just that.
