Tasmanian Gov, West Coast Council Unite for Prosperous Future

The Tasmanian Liberal Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the West Coast Council and key industry leaders.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the MoU was an important next step in progressing the Government's commitment to develop a Strategic Regional Partnership with the Western Region of Tasmania.

"We know by working together, by sharing ideas, by collaborating and most importantly by involving and listening to our community we can help grown and support our communities to be thriving, welcoming place to live and visit," the Premier said.

"This MoU cements our goodwill to work collaboratively toward a Strategic Regional Partnership to achieve those ends.

"Our Government has a vision for Tasmania's regions that ensures they have the infrastructure, services and people they need to thrive and attract investment for sustained growth and prosperity.

"The Memorandum of Understanding outlines how our Government will continue to work with the Council, RDA-Tasmania and industry to formalise our partnership."

The MOU outlines our commitment to:

  • Improve accommodation, infrastructure, and amenity of towns to attract and retain workers and families;
  • Provide better liveability, including through sustainability and wellbeing. and connection for local people and local industries;
  • Provide a diversified economy;
  • Provide a voice for the local community and demonstrate social benefits for residents, and,
  • Leverage private industry investment to deliver benefits for the community.

"Our Government is committed to our long-term plan to make Tasmania the best place to live, work and raise a family," the Premier said.

"Last week I announced our next regional partnership will be with the East Coast region and I will have more to say on that in time.

"This is another example of our Government's commitment to invest in our regions, which are the lifeblood of this state."
