With more than 300 Tasmanian men diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, a new Rotary club in Hobart is stepping up to help by hosting a quiz night fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

The Rotary Satellite Club of Sandy Bay, one of Tasmania's newest Rotary groups, will stage the event at a local Hobart brewery, combining trivia, raffles and auctions to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

Club member Ms Kareena Dias said the fundraiser was born out of the members' personal experience with the disease.

"So many members have friends or family who have been affected by prostate cancer.

"We wanted to do something meaningful that raises funds, raises awareness, and shows men that they're not alone," Ms Dias said.

Rotary Satellite Club of Sandy Bay President Charles Cook said that prostate cancer was the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Tasmanian men.

"This event is about standing with men and families impacted by the disease, and giving our younger members are chance to lead on a really important issue," Mr Cook said.

The quiz night will feature trivia, raffles, silent auctions and lucky door prizes.

"The event will have something for everyone, and Shambles Brewery is has graciously donated their space free-of-charge in support of the cause," Ms Dias added.

PCFA's Chief Executive Officer, Ms Anne Savage, said the event will help share vital information about the early detection of prostate cancer, and the support that's available for men going through diagnosis and treatment.

'"This year, more than 300 Tasmanian men and their families will hear the shocking words: 'You have prostate cancer.' For many, it will be the beginning of a life-changing journey.

"Community support like this quiz night helps us fund vital research, raise awareness and provide dedicated Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses to support men and their families," Ms Savage added.

The quiz night will take place on Wednesday, October 22, at the Shambles Brewery, 222 Elizabeth Street in Hobart. Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
