As the seasons change, millions of migratory birds are taking off on their incredible journeys across plains, seas, mountains, and multiple international borders.
Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary becomes a birdwatching hotspot at this time of year, welcoming species like Sharp-tailed Sandpipers from as far as Siberia and Alaska.
Each August, these small birds arrive in Australia, and by March, they begin their long journey home to the Arctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America.
Please give them space to rest and refuel - these tiny travellers need all the energy they can muster for a successful breeding season back in the Arctic.
A gentle reminder for dog owners: Dogs are prohibited from all intertidal rocky platforms and seagrass beds within Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary, and must be on leash unless in a designated off-leash area.
Get ready for the Aussie Bird Count
From 20-26 October, nature lovers across the country are invited to take part in this fun and easy citizen science project to help track how our feathered friends are faring.
Just spend 20 minutes in your favourite outdoor space and tell us about the birds you see during that period. Your sightings help track bird populations.
With 1 in 6 Aussie bird species facing extinction, every count matters.
