Trace Element Soil Testing Analysis Report Now Available

Latrobe City Council welcomes the release of the soil testing results by the Environment Protection Authority undertaken at 90 locations in Latrobe City in July 2022, including:

  • public land around a proposed used lead-acid battery facility site
  • industrial areas around Hazelwood North
  • the nearby towns of Morwell and Churchill.

316 samples were analysed at EPA’s Centre for Applied Science laboratories in Macleod. Testing included aluminium (Al), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg) lead (Pb) and others.

The testing follows Council’s request to the Environment Protection Authority in March 2022 for assistance in undertaking testing in the general area outside of the proposed used lead-acid battery recycling facility.

Council places a priority in continuing this engagement with our community on this matter, and will continue to work with the EPA to ensure the community remains informed.

Soil testing results showed little or no signs of contamination.
