Two police officers assaulted, man charged at Parramatta

Two police officers were allegedly assaulted while arresting a man at Parramatta yesterday.

About 11am, (Friday 28 August 2020), police attended a bank on George Street after receiving information a 29-year-old man was involved in a verbal altercation with an employee.

Police issued the man with a move-on direction and he failed to comply.

Police allege the man became agitated and was again asked to leave the area. He continued to be aggressive towards police – refusing to leave – before swinging his hand out and hitting an officer.

The man ran from police and was detained following a short pursuit.

During the arrest police allege he continued to struggle with police and kicked an officer in the chest.

The man was handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle before being taken to Parramatta Police Station.

He was charged with assault police (x3), resist arrest, and refuse/fail to comply with direction and was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 29 August 2020).

The officers sustained abrasions and bruising and not require medical treatment.
