The University of Cincinnati's interdisciplinary research facility Digital Futures welcomed its first industrial partner, Thales.
Thales is a global aerospace, defense and digital technology firm. Headquartered in France, it employs 83,000 people in dozens of countries, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The collaboration, unveiled at this year's Research + Innovation week, will bring UC and Thales researchers together to focus on advances in artificial intelligence and air mobility. The physical workspace expands on a research agreement UC and Thales signed in 2023.
Nick Ernest, UC engineering alum and chief architect for Thales Avionics, said that the new collaborative space "strengthens [Thales's] engagement with academia and advances research into safe and ethical AI for mission‑ and safety‑critical applications."
