The University of Florida's Office of Public Policy Events will host a panel discussion about how to balance advances in medical AI with concerns about data privacy on March 26 at 5 p.m. in Holland Hall 180 at UF's Levin College of Law.
This free event is titled "Co-creating Consent: Digital Democracy to Protect Privacy in Medical AI," and panelists will explore the challenge of protecting privacy in artificial intelligence and machine learning medical software tools that use people's sensitive real-world health data.
The event will introduce attendees to the urgent need to leverage human regulators with AI tools of their own, such as AI-powered "digital democracy" tools to give patients a stronger voice in policy decisions affecting how health data can be used and the privacy protections patients should receive.
Barbara Evans, J.D., Ph.D., professor of law and professor of engineering, and Azra Bihorac, M.D.; professor of medicine, surgery, and anesthesiology and director of the Intelligent Clinical Care Center; are two of the panelists for this event.
