A year of transitions at the Unit
The Unit's Annual Report 2023 is published today.
It gives an overview of our research studies, and our publications from the year. It also details our engagement with patients, service users and family carers, our knowledge exchange activities, and the Unit's wide array of seminar series.
For the Unit, 2023 was a year of transitions. We moved toward the end of the 2019-2023 NIHR Policy Research Unit contract and made proposals for our successful bid for renewal (2024-2028).
And in October 2023, Professor Annette Boaz became the new Director of the Unit - following a period of interim leadership by Professor Ian Kessler - replacing Professor Jill Manthorpe, the Unit Director since 2001 who retired in April. Jill is now Professor Emerita of Social Work at King's. Today's publication contains contributions from both Directors.
Professor Boaz, who came to King's from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has since been joined by Professor Anne-Marie Towers, who became Deputy Director of the Unit in September 2024.
The Report was compiled and edited by Hannah Miyanji and Kritika Samsi.

The Annual Report 2022 is the last under Jill Manthorpe as Director. Prof Manthorpe remarks:
As I move on in March 2023 from this Unit, I reflect how much it has been inspiring to work with my talented, supportive and good humoured colleagues as well as with the wider King's researchers.
