A flood-prone street in Tamworth is set to get an upgrade which will make it more disaster-resilient.
Ebsworth Street, from Bridge Street to Denne Street, will be upgraded using an asphalt pavement that reduces the impact of future flooding events on the road.
"That section of road often floods when the Peel River peaks during periods of heavy rainfall," Murray Russell, Manager Operations at Tamworth Regional Council, said.
"The road was due to be replaced and the upgraded asphalt pavement that will be used will make the road more resilient against flooding."
These works come after a successful road resealing program by Council where over 300 sections of road were resealed around the Tamworth Region.
"Roads are one of the biggest concerns for residents and Council is always looking at ways to upgrade and improve our network," Mr Russell said.
Construction will start on Monday, 15 June and is expected to take five days to complete, weather permitting.
Ebsworth Street, from Bridge Street to Denne Street, will be closed for the full duration of construction. Traffic control and signage will be in place, along with a detour through Denison Street for light vehicles and via Jewry Street for heavy vehicles.
The project has been made possible thanks to a $1 million Local Government Recovery Grant from the NSW Office of Local Government (OLG), jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, along with a contribution of approximately $160,000 by Council.
