UQ Ranked In Global Top 40

University of Queensland

The University of Queensland has ranked among the world's top 40 universities in the 2027 QS World University Rankings - remaining in the top 3% globally.

UQ placed equal 40th, rising two places from equal 42nd last year.

UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry AC said the result reflected the University's continued strength in teaching and research, and the dedication of staff and researchers.

"We're pleased to see UQ recognised among the world's top universities, but more importantly, this result reflects our improvement in employer reputation and strong performance in international student and faculty ratios, our global research network and academic reputation," Professor Terry said.

"While rankings are only one measure, we remain focused on our core mission to prepare students for future careers, deliver research for the public good, and engage with the communities we serve."

The QS rankings evaluate universities across five key areas: research, employability outcomes, learning, global engagement and sustainability.

The results draw on analysis of millions of research papers to assess academic output and the strength and diversity of research networks, alongside metrics capturing employer reputation, learning experience and sustainability.

UQ also ranked equal 42nd globally in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026-2027, with 17 subjects in the global top 50.
