University of Queensland

Researchers from The University of Queensland have received $10 million through the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Synergy Grants scheme.

The two UQ researchers have been awarded $5 million each to address challenges across health and medical research.

Professor Gail Garvey will lead research to improve health outcomes for Indigenous Australians by strengthening cancer screening through the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research Program.

Professor Paul Hodges will lead research to strengthen the understanding of chronic pain mechanisms and improve how treatment is prescribed to patients.

The NHMRC Synergy Grants support multidisciplinary project teams to translate research into health policy and practice.
