Applications are now available for the Air Force Youth Programs' residential aviation camp and residential space camp, offered to Department of Defense dependents with valid identification. Applications are due April 6.
The Air Force Teen Aviation Camp will be held from June 15-21, at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. Space Camp will offer two sessions at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama--the first from July 19- 24 and the other from July 26-31.
Youth who will complete their freshman or sophomore year of high school this school year are eligible for Aviation Camp, which will afford them an opportunity to explore careers in the Air Force as aviators. While spending money is the responsibility of the participants, all expenses related to transportation, lodging, meals and the program itself are centrally funded.
Air Force Space Camp is open to children ages 12-18 who have not graduated from high school and who wish to explore careers as astronauts. Lodging, meals, and program expenses are fully funded centrally, but transportation and spending money must be supplied by the participants.
Space Camp offers various programs for children in different age groups. Ages 12-14 will be able to participate in either the Space Academy which will give students the chance to train like astronauts, Robotics Academy which includes designing, programming and piloting robots amongst other things, or Mach II which provides hands-on activities in aeronautics, propulsion and aviation history. For ages 15-18, Space Camp offers an Advanced Space Academy which gives students the chance to design, build and launch a rocket and scuba dive in an Underwater Astronaut Trainer, Mach III which includes participating in space training simulators, learning wilderness survival techniques and planning and executing three missions and U.S. Cyber Camp which includes a tour of Redstone Arsenal, building a Raspberry Pi computer, that students can take home, and learning coding and programming.
