Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Trade

A first-of-its-kind delegation from the US state of Washington got a glimpse of what Tasmania has to offer when they met with Government, industry, and local businesses this week.

Premier and Minister for Trade, Jeremy Rockliff, said the visit by 25 senior US government officials and business leaders, led by Washington's Governor, Jay Inslee, marked a milestone between the two states.

"We were delighted to welcome the Washington delegation to Tasmania this week," Premier Rockliff said.

"It was fantastic to meet with the delegation to discuss opportunities on how Tasmania and Washington can work together across shared areas of interest."

Governor of Washington, Jay Inslee said: "Our time in Tasmania has been a breath of fresh air — literally."

"Our state delegation is excited to collaborate with government, trade, research and business leaders on clean technology to go further, farther, faster on decarbonization. These partnerships will help our economies, our communities, and our future."

Premier Rockliff said Washington and Tasmania share many similarities, including strong connections to a number of primary industries.

"There's a lot we can learn from each other, which is why we're focussed on developing opportunities to work together in the future," Premier Rockliff said.

"The visit has helped strengthen connections and identify areas for collaboration, including across innovation, development, research, and commercial applications in hydrogen and future energies, clean technology, maritime and advanced technologies, the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.

"We have committed to developing an agreement to enhance the partnerships between the institutions, businesses, and government bodies."

The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its long-term plan to grow Tasmania's strategic partnerships and create more opportunities for businesses, helping to grow our economy and secure jobs.
