- Targeted funding designed to build capacity of WA's screen industry
- The Cook Government is supporting our creative industries to grow and thrive
The Cook Government has invested $5 million to fast-track growth in key sectors of the local screen industry ahead of the opening of the Perth Film Studios in 2026.
Delivered through Screenwest, the expanded Targeted Industry Capacity Building Program will enable businesses to scale up to provide infrastructure and services that will build capacity in targeted areas of the screen industry and support Western Australia's economic diversification.
The program will target bold ideas to increase the capacity of key screen production sectors, including camera, grips and lighting equipment; rigging equipment; set construction and standby props equipment, art department, catering, screen production support facilities and special effects.
This will reduce the need to import equipment and services from the eastern states during screen production and increase the economic return for WA.
It is expected over the next 10 years Perth Film Studios will attract up to 10 per cent of Australia's annual screen productions, compared to the current one per cent.
Comments attributed to Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
