A speeding P-Plater who allegedly failed to stop for police before fleeing on foot was one of 16 people arrested during a nightly operation in Wyndham last week.
A Highway Patrol unit first spotted the white BMW allegedly speeding in Hoppers Crossing just before 11pm on 3 June.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle however the driver allegedly failed to stop and took off, reaching speeds of 123km/h in a 60km zone.
The Air Wing tracked the vehicle to an address in Hoppers Crossing, and observed the driver allegedly get out and speak to someone before taking off on foot.
Footage shows the man jump over several fences before being spotted by officers on the ground and arrested.
A subsequent search of the man also located a knife and cannabis allegedly in his possession.
The 21-year-old, who had his vehicle impounded, is among 16 people arrested during the two-night blitz which saw local police team up with the Air Wing and Dog Squad to target high-harm crime.
The operation also led to:
- 103 charges laid
- Four stolen vehicles recovered
- Six weapons seized including an imitation firearm
- 21 outstanding warrants executed
- 371 vehicles checked
- 38 traffic infringement notices issued for unlicensed, suspended and disqualified drivers
- 12 vehicles impounded
Operation Shows commenced in early 2022 to target car thefts and dangerous driving in the western suburbs.
Since its launch, police have caught up with more than 1,300 offenders and laid more than 2,500 charges.
Operation Shows ran overnight on 3 and 4 June and will continue to run sporadically in the area.
