Welcomed light on Dromana foreshore

The iconic flagpole in Dromana is now a glowing beacon with a new light feature having been installed.

We funded $27,000 for the lighting of the symbolic feature in Dromana, as it's a federal government requirement the National flag may only be flown at night when illuminated.

Many Dromana residents and in particular WW2 veteran Gerry Shepherd have been instrumental in bringing this lighting project to life.

On flag-flying days such as ANZAC Day, we've raised and lowered the flag manually. Now, the National, Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal flags are all flying permanently at the Dromana foreshore.

Quote attributable to Mayor Councillor Steve Holland:

"I'm pleased to see our flags now illuminated at Dromana foreshore. The flagpole mast is now a welcoming beacon while flying our flags with pride."

Quote attributable to Seawinds Ward Councillors Antonella Celi, Debra Mar and Kerri McCafferty:

"We wish to thank our team of dedicated volunteers who maintained the flag raising duties, through this funding we are now able to showcase our flags at Dromana Pier day and night to bring about community pride and unity."
