New water tanks at Bearii will boost the local CFA's firefighting capacity and improve irrigation at the town's recreation reserve.
The two, 27,000-litre, lined steel tanks are bore-fed and were a joint project between the CFA and Moira Shire Council, and were built by Coulter's Plumbing of Yarrawonga. The project cost $90,000 and was funded by Council.
The new tanks, set on a concrete slab to protect them from flooding, replace Council's existing single small tank on a raised platform which no longer met CFA and Council requirements.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the new tanks meant an improvement in supply reliability for the CFA and Council.
"The CFA helped size the tanks based on truck capacity and turnaround time in the event of remote grassfires in the district," Dr Emonson said.
"The tanks will also improve Council's efficiency when watering the adjacent Bearii Recreation Reserve."
Dr Emonson thanked John Parnell, CFA Brigade Support Officer for Moira, and John Coulter, Coulter's Plumbing director, for their work with the Council team on this project.
