Works begin on Australian first Satellite Hospitals program in Redlands

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services The Honourable Yvette D'Ath

An important milestone has been reached in the Palaszczuk Government's Australian-first Satellite Hospitals program, with the first sod being turned in the Redlands today.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D'Ath said that the crucial projects across the south-east corner would deliver improved healthcare services in growing communities.

"Today is a momentous occasion as we mark the start of construction of our seven Satellite Hospitals," said Minister D'Ath.

"We are building these Satellite Hospitals to support growing communities with the health infrastructure that they need.

"Our Satellite Hospitals program is an Australian first initiative that will improve healthcare, supporting jobs in construction and health jobs when they're open."

Satellite Hospitals will be built in the Redlands alongside Eight Mile Plains, Caboolture, Ripley, Pine Rivers, Tugun and Bribie Island.

Minister for Public Works and Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni said the Satellite Hospitals program will create up to 773 jobs.

"This is great news for local tradies," Minister de Brenni said.

"We've chosen to partner with Queensland construction icon Hutchinson's across all the Satellite Hospital projects.

"This will be under a new model that delivers rapid construction, best practice conditions, project trust accounts coverage and a quality finish."

Member for Redlands Kim Richards welcomed the start of construction.

"I am thrilled to mark this important milestone for our local community today," said Ms Richards.

"I have fought hard to ensure that the Redlands gets the health facilities it needs – especially as more people decide to call our community home."

The Redland Satellite Hospital will be located at 22-28 Meissner St, Redland Bay.
