A new state-of-the-art primary school in Hilbert was officially opened today by Education Minister Sabine Winton, as it welcomed its first students for the start of Term 1.

The Cook Government invested $41 million to deliver the new Wungong Primary School, to meet the needs of families in the suburbs of Wungong, Hilbert, and surrounding areas.

The primary school, which is ready to accommodate up to 540 students from kindergarten to year 6, is equipped with five classrooms and shaded play spaces for kindergarten and pre-primary students, as well as two double-storey teaching blocks with 13 general classrooms, an inclusive education classroom, science and art classrooms, and a library resource centre.

Students will also have access to a covered assembly area with an adjoining music room, canteen, and storage. Outdoor play space, hardcourts, and a school oval complement the new buildings.

An administration block, staffroom facilities, and collegiate areas are also included in the development.

The new primary school was designed by Carabiner Architects and constructed by Crothers Construction Pty Ltd.

This major education project forms part of the Cook Government's record investment of more than $5.4 billion investment in new and improved school infrastructure across the State.
