108 New Recruits Begin Policing Careers in Queensland

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is proud to announce the graduation of 108 First Year Constables from the QPS Academy in Brisbane.

These new officers bring a diverse range of skills and experiences, with backgrounds as business owners, high school graduates, retail workers, and professionals from the automotive industry.

Graduating from the QPS Academy after months of rigorous training, these recruits are now ready to join the frontline and serve communities across Queensland, from Cairns to Coolangatta and Mount Isa to Goondiwindi.

With the addition of these new QPS constables, more than 1,800 recruits have been sworn in since October 31, 2024.

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM congratulated the graduates on their achievement and welcomed them to the Service.

"Our newest officers reflect the diversity and strength of Queensland's communities," Acting Commissioner Pointing said.

"They bring a broad range of skills, perspectives and life experiences that will be invaluable as they work to keep Queenslanders safe and build trust in the communities they serve."

Constable Chloe Mayes was inspired to follow in her father's footsteps, with her dad currently serving in the QPS.

"Watching my dad dedicate his life to helping others and changing lives for the better has always inspired me. I've aspired to be like him and make a difference in my community," Constable Mayes said.

Among the graduates is Constable Ben Montgomery who previously worked in the automotive industry and is excited to begin his policing career.

"I wanted a career where I could make a meaningful impact in my community," Constable Montgomery said.

"I'm looking forward to using my skills and training to help people and make a difference every day."

Constable Asher Mifsud, a former business owner, shared their excitement about joining the QPS and being posted to Southport.

"Running my own business taught me how to communicate with people from all walks of life and handle challenging situations. I'm eager to bring those skills to my new role and serve the community with pride," Constable Mifsud said.

Also among the graduates is Constable Ritesh Sood, who emigrated to Australia to attend university and is now posted to Townsville.

"I'm most looking forward to engaging with the community in a positive way and working in a job where every day is different. Policing is such a rewarding career, and I'm excited to make a real difference in people's lives," Constable Sood said.

The QPS remains committed to recruiting individuals from all walks of life, ensuring the Service reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. The recent graduating cohort is a testament to this commitment, with graduates from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds.

The new officers will now be deployed to stations across Queensland, where they will contribute to the safety and wellbeing of their communities.
