- Partnership between Federal and WA Labor Governments to deliver $11.9 million housing development
- Project to create 20 one and two-bedroom apartments in a high-demand inner southern location for seniors
- Construction expected to commence second half of 2025
The ongoing partnership between the Cook and Albanese Labor Governments is set to deliver an $11.9 million boost to social housing in Perth's inner south through an off-the-plan purchase of 20 apartments on Almondbury Road in Ardross.
The one and two-bedroom apartments earmarked for seniors have been designed by Klopper & Davis Architects and the build will be managed by Spinnaker Developments.
The 20-apartment complex will be built to a Silver Liveable design standard and has been funded by the Federal Government's Social Housing Accelerator Payment fund after it was procured through the State Government's Call for Submissions initiative.
The Call for Submissions initiative invites private industry to help deliver apartments and grouped dwelling residential developments for social housing in Perth and regional Western Australia.
The Almondbury Road site is located close to public transport, shops and other amenities.
Purchases off-the-plan encourage the acceleration of construction, allowing projects to proceed.
Construction of the apartments is expected to commence in the second half of 2025.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"This off-the-plan purchase and construction of 20 apartments represents a significant boost to much-needed social housing for seniors in Perth's inner south.
"The project demonstrates a positive result from the State and Commonwealth Governments working together, with the private sector, to deliver more housing.
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to increasing housing choice for seniors right across the State and has delivered more than 3,300 social homes since our record $5.8 billion investment in housing and homelessness in 2021."
As stated by Bateman MLA Kim Giddens:
"Projects like this strengthen our community by allowing people to age in place, stay connected to their networks, and live with dignity.
"As the local member, I've heard directly from seniors looking for secure, affordable housing close to family and community. I'm proud to see this project respond to that need.
"It's a great example of what can be achieved when governments work together to deliver real results for our community."
As stated by Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim:
"Everyone deserves to have a safe and secure home. This project represents a shared commitment to addressing the housing needs for seniors in my community with social and affordable homes.
"The Almondbury Road location is convenient to public transport, shops and community services that are important for seniors.
"This partnership between the Commonwealth and the WA State Government is delivering for Tangney and is an example of how we support communities through investment into long-term housing security."
