Work is well underway on a new $68.6 million primary school for the rapidly growing Logan suburb of Yarrabilba, creating up to 190 local construction jobs.
Education Minister Grace Grace said she was delighted to see the progress on another state-of-the-art school in one of the fastest-growing areas of the state.
"The Palaszczuk Government is proud to be delivering this wonderful new school, which will open for Prep to Year 6 students for 2023," Minister Grace said.
"Earlier this year we announced that the contract had been awarded to ADCO Constructions to construct Stage One of the second Yarrabilba school, and there were shovels in the ground straight away.
"Stage one will include an administration building, prep and junior learning spaces, a resource centre, multi-purpose hall, canteen, car parking, amenities and an oval, providing excellent educational facilities to the community.
"Yarrabilba's newest state school will increase the capacity of the local schooling network and provide enrolment relief to Yarrabilba State School, Logan Village State School and Cedar Creek State School."
Ms Grace said the school is one of four new schools the Palaszczuk Government is building this year ready for 2023, with others in Ripley, Augustine Heights and Palmview – a total investment of nearly $330 million.
"Together these four new schools will support 900 local jobs," Ms Grace said.
Ms Grace said the Palaszczuk Government invests in new educational facilities to ensure all students have access to a world-class education.
"That's why since 2015, we've built 21 new schools in the fastest growing areas of our state. This includes the four 4 for 2023, and in total there are 11 new schools due to be built in the next couple of years," Ms Grace said.
Member for Logan Linus Power said Yarrabilba is one of the fastest growing areas in Logan.
"I am proud that we are making sure we're building the facilities for our kids to learn in to secure a better future," Mr Power said.
"The new primary school is one of three new schools to be built in Yarrabilba since the Palaszczuk Government was elected in 2015.
"We understand the importance of making strong investments in areas like mine, to support our growing communities and create local jobs.
"In 2018, we opened the $45 million Yarrabilba State School, and this year we invested an additional $14.5 million at the school to deliver a brand new two-storey learning building."
Foundation Principal for the new primary school in Logan, Mr Aaron Jones, attended state schools in the Logan area as a student and has been a principal since 2013.
"It is exciting to see the work that's underway on the brand new school for Yarrabilba," Mr Jones said.
"I know that the local community can't wait for this wonderful new facility to open and I am really looking forward to working with all the local parents and carers preparing for next year's opening."
The Palaszczuk Government is proud of its almost $1.9 billion education infrastructure investment this financial year, supporting 4,100 jobs across the state.
