2023 theatre season - Dare to be different

The 2023 Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) Season Launch on Sunday 27 November, sponsored by Kings Hall Jewellers, revealed 22 local, national and international touring productions for the forthcoming year.

There were over 250 people in attendance with the Launch returning to pre-Covid-19 format with no capacity restrictions, live performances by cabaret artist, Jude Bowler, Candando Sorelle Choir and bubbly and nibbles served in the Theatre foyer. Dubbo Theatre Company performed excerpts for their shows being Jesus Christ Superstar and John Buchan's The 39 Steps.

"We are excited to present the 2023 Season of shows which offers a very different program with some unique and captivating fringe works," said Dubbo Regional Theatre Manager, Linda Christof. "With major companies having caught up with presenting the back log of productions due to the pandemic, they are now concentrating on developing new works and touring overseas next year. This gives the regional theatre network an opportunity to program some non-mainstage and new Australian works such as Maureen: Harbinger of Death and Wild Thing and also well-known classics including Death of a Salesman and The Sunshine Club."

The 2023 Season theme; Dare to be Different, encourages patrons to include some of the more non-mainstream but brilliant works in their subscription. Since opening in 2010, audiences' tastes have developed to embrace intriguing and more obscure works that metro audiences have on tap.

The new season include lots of comedy including The Umbilical Brothers, Multicultural Comedy Gala, Luke Kidgell and the hugely popular Wharf Revue – Looking for Albanese. The Australian Ballet also features as well as the ABC Kids hit show, The Beanies, the international Soweto Gospel Choir, Marcia Hines – Still Shining and so much more to satisfy families and school audiences. Andy Nelson and friends alongside Millie Mills will also be performing at Wellington Civic Centre.

"The team is excited about every aspect of the season; the season theme, content and the amazing producers we will be working with," said Ms Christof. "After the last few years we feel the direction the Theatre is going in is different and unique – we are confident theatre traditionalists and new audiences alike will embrace it."

The Season Launch was also an opportunity to announce and welcome new sponsors, Centre Stage sponsor, MAAS Group Holdings and Chorus Line sponsor, Duncan McGinness Veterinary Surgeon. The combined support of our theatre sponsors enables us to develop a program that is high calibre and affordable for the community.

The subscription period is from Sunday 27 November 2022 through to Friday 6 January 2023 to secure ticket discounts and your favourite seat. After that date all tickets go on general sale to the public. People can still subscribe after that date but with seats filling up, you may not get your seat preference. More information is on the DRTCC website.
