35 Traffic Fines Issued in Noosa Blitz Operation

Police are reminding motorists and beachgoers at Noosa North Shore to behave responsibly and to expect police anywhere, anytime following a three-day traffic blitz.

Officers from the Sunshine Coast Northern Patrol Group undertook traffic enforcement and education activities between Friday 29 May and Sunday 31 May as part of the continued Operation Sandstorm.

Operation Sandstorm is a joint effort with Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPWS) targeting dangerous behaviour at Noosa North Shore, Teewah Beach and Double Island Point.

497 random breath tests were conducted, resulting in one drink driver and two drug drivers being detected. All three were issued notices to appear.

Officers also issued 35 traffic infringement notices (TINs), as well as two penalty infringement notices under the QPWS Conservation Area Management Act.

At approximately 10.30am on Saturday 30 May, police observed the drivers of two vehicles being dealt with by rangers from QPWS following reports of hooning at Noosa North Shore.

Following further enquiries, police also gave the drivers a verbal warning.

Around 1pm that same day, officers patrolling Teewah Beach observed two jet skis travelling in excess of the 6-knot speed limit. Both male drivers were issued TINs.

At 11.25am on 31 May, police issued TINs to the driver of a grey Isuzu after it was allegedly detected travelling 66 kilometres per hour in a 40 zone.

Acting Inspector Jonathan McBride says there is zero tolerance for dangerous behaviour on our beaches.

"The safety of all beachgoers on Noosa North Shore, and in particular young children and families, is imperative," he said.

"Our beaches are for everyone to enjoy, and Queensland Police undertake routine patrols of the area."
